The technology group Wärtsilä will supply an 18 MW extension to the power producing facility and upgrade the electrical and automation system of the present power plant on the Sabodala-Massawa gold mine advanced in Senegal, West Africa.
The mine is owned by Endeavour Mining, a leading international gold producer. The upgrading and extension challenge will allow for the complete integration of all of the site’s power producing capability, while ensuring the provision of the wanted electrical power to take care of and expand the mine’s manufacturing schedules

he order with Wärtsilä was positioned by Sabodala Gold Operations and it has been booked in Wärtsilä’s order consumption in Q3 2022. ไดอะแฟรม shall be delivered underneath a whole engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract.
Sabodala-Massawa mine is the biggest producing gold mine in Senegal and is located in the eastern a half of the nation in the Kedougou area. Endeavour’s deliberate mine expansion will remodel Sabodala-Massawa into a top-tier gold asset with incremental manufacturing.
“Wärtsilä has a depth of expertise in delivering power options for mining operations around the globe. Not being linked to the grid means that the captive plant needs to be capable of offering a dependable supply of electricity always, since no power equals no manufacturing. The Wärtsilä 32 engines selected for this expansion challenge have established a strong popularity for prime effectivity and reliability under even the most tough ambient conditions, eliminating revenue losses from power shortages,” stated Marc Thiriet, Energy Business Director, Africa West, Wärtsilä.
The three Wärtsilä 32 engines to be put in are 20 per cent more fuel environment friendly than the plant’s present engines. Their fuel effectivity minimises the environmental impact by decreasing dangerous CO2 emissions. In addition to their excellent performance, they’ve the pliability to help a smooth transition to the integration of solar power and energy storage into the system. The upgrade of the electrical and automation system will optimise the interconnection and management for the existing power plant with the extension.
The project is anticipated to be completed and commissioned earlier than the top of 2023.
Wärtsilä is Senegal’s main provider of energy producing tools, and already has 543 MW of installed capability in altogether 20 energy plants within the country. 458 MW of this capacity is under Wärtsilä long-term service agreements.
